Maidwell Hall

Headmaster Robert Lankester of Maidwell Hall contacted The Muir Maxwell Trust further to Christopher Biggin's appearance on "Celebrity Who Wants to be a Millionaire" on New Years Day 2008. Christopher, who has been an enormous supporter of the charity since it was launched, nominated The Muir Maxwell Trust as his chosen charity and won £25,000 in support of our cause.

Every year Maidwell Hall nominates a different charity as the beneficiary of their annual sponsored walk. For the year 2008, touched in numerous ways by the consequences of epilepsy, Robert Lankester was looking for an epilepsy charity on behalf of the school. Christopher spoke at length about our work and Robert was impressed. With the approval of the boys, The Muir Maxwell Trust was identified as Maidwell Hall's chosen charity for this year's challenge.

Since then the charity's founder, Ann Maxwell, has visited Maidwell Hall and discussed the work of the trust with the boys and their parents. As we at Muir Maxwell Trust were inspired by their fundraising initiative, so too were the boy's inspired by the work of the trust.  With a better understanding of the consequences of severe epilepsy in children, the boys are determined to raise as much money as possible to help improve the diagnosis, treatment and care of children with complex epilepsy.

The boy's challenge is enormous. - a 40 Mile walk over 3 days unsupported in the Lake District.  The Muir Maxwell Trust is privileged to be associated with this outstanding fund raising initiative and wish all participants - parents and teachers too - every success in June.

Thank you on behalf of all our beneficiaries.

The Expedition:
5th - 8th June 2008

Twelve 13 year old boys will be walking from one side of the Lake District to the other. Over the three days they will ascend the two highest mountains in England and will walk over 40 miles. They will be carrying heavy rucksacks with all their provisions for the three days together with their tents; to this extent the expedition is unsupported with all three nights spent camping, one of which will be a wild campsite up amongst the mountains. It will be a real challenge for them but they have prepared well and the staggeringly beautiful scenery of the Lake District will inspire them as well as the main objective of raising as much money as possible for the Muir Maxwell Trust.

At least twelve adults will also be joining the expedition in the form of mothers and fathers and myself. We will also find it a challenge and are also looking for sponsorship towards the Muir Maxwell Trust. Thank you very much for your support.
