A little boy called Jack has nine Belles, including Mum Catherine who watch over him like guardian angels. It is the most heart rending story. Six months ago two and a half year old Jack was diagnosed with Dravet Syndrome but for a year now Jack's mother Catherine and her girlfriends have been consumed with a desire to raise awareness of childhood epilepsy and its consequences. They are one voice but nine amazing advocates and they have directed their energy into fundraising for the Muir Maxwell Trust - glamorous fundraising balls, coffee mornings, children's discos, dress down days at school and endless media coverage to help them in their mission. They are the most inspiring ladies!
And the climax for the year was for these girls from Blackpool to visit Edinburgh and an over night stay at the Balmoral Hotel - a wonderful treat for Mum Catherine who rarely has a night off. The purpose of the visit, aside from having some fun in Edinburgh, was to present founder of the Muir Maxwell Trust Ann Maxwell and her colleague Karen McKendrick with a cheque representing the fruits of their labour for the last year's work - their target was £5,000 but they bold us over when they revealed their cheque for an incredible £10,000!
It was an emotional meeting for all parties at the Balmoral Hotel on that Friday afternoon. New faces but old friends now! And renewed vigour has taken those ladies back to Blackpool for more fundraising, would you believe! The next big event is a ladies Lunch in Blackpool on Saturday 28th November and Ann Maxwell will be delighted to attend.
Well done Ladies. You are an inspiration for all of us!
