MORE - Mum On the Run for Epilepsy

Ann MaxwellThis autumn we launched a campaign called Mum on the Run for Epilepsy.  Our Co-Founder, Ann Maxwell, is running through Scotland and on the way visiting schools, businesses, clubs and voluntary organisations.

As well as spreading the word about epilepsy and its impact on family life, the campaign will hopefully raise much needed funds for the Muir Maxwell Trust to continue providing practical support to children with complex epilepsy and their families. It will also serve as a training programme for Ann for the Virgin Money London Marathon which will be the climax of our campaign year in April 2014.

If you would like to make a donation as part of this fundraising campaign please see the link below to our JustGiving page or if you are inspired to embrace a challenge of your own on our behalf please contact us and we will see how we can help.    http://www.justgiving.com/Ann-Maxwell4

Dollar Academy

On September 25th 2009 the students and staff of Dollar Academy in Clackmannanshire pulled on their walking boots to take part in a 13mile sponsored walk in aid of six charities nominated by the school's charity committee.

The Muir Maxwell Trust was one of the charities to benefit from their fantastic effort and in early December Ann Maxwell attended an assembly at the school to collect a cheque for the fantastic sum of £9,400 and to speak to the student about the work of the Trust and the effects epilepsy has on children with the condition and their families.

The walk took place in fine conditions and many students took part in fancy dress!  Good humour and high spirits prevailed throughout the day and we hear the walk was highly enjoyable!

Maidwell Hall School

In February 2008 Ann Maxwell visited Maidwell Hall a boy’s boarding school in Northampton, at the request of the headmaster Robert Lankester. The Muir Maxwell Trust is Maidwell Hall’s chosen charity for 2008.

The purpose of the visit was to talk to the boys for half an hour about the work of the Trust, relay the story of Muir Maxwell and explain about childhood epilepsy and its effects.

The details were given in simple terms and the talk was well received, provoking many thoughtful questions. The presentation concluded with a video all about Muir. The boys of Maidwell Hall are now committed to raising as much money as they can in support of children with epilepsy, for which we are extremely grateful.

With a better understanding of childhood epilepsy, the boys are able to communicate our plight to others and so contribute to our awareness campaign and help remove the stigma associated with epilepsy.

If you would like the Muir Maxwell Trust to present to your school about childhood epilepsy, we have some volunteer parents who would be delighted to share their story and help the pupils at your school in their understanding of this sometimes devastating neurological condition.
