In Memory of Luke

Luke was a wonderful little boy that I first met two years ago when Marie and John agreed to an interview with the Glasgow Evening Times discussing Luke's epilepsy and his diagnosis of Dravet Syndrome which was enabled by a DNA service sponsored by MMT.

To look at Luke you would never have known that there was a great problem with his health and that managing Luke made life quite a challenge for Marie and John and younger brother Oliver. John went on to fundraise for us, running the Dunfermline Half Marathon and raising over £2000. A friend of his in Dubai subsequently ran the Beijing Marathon for the Trust, also raising a substantial sum. Marie and John also appeared in one of MMT's short films and Luke still features on our banner images on our website. Despite their commitment to the cause and their devotion to Luke, life remained tough for the whole family.

Very sadly, Luke passed away in his sleep one night - 5th October 2011. The  cause if death was SUDEP. He didn't have a seizure, he just stopped breathing. He was only 6 years old.

Our thoughts are with Luke's family at this sad time in their lives.
