HRH The Princess Royal Opens Muir Maxwell Epilepsy Centre Today

HRH The Princess Royal opened the Muir Maxwell Epilepsy Centre today, a collaborative research centre without walls and a partnership with Edinburgh University College of Medicine and Veterinary Studies.

MMT's Founder, Ann Maxwell said "It is a privilege to have contributed to the initial funding of this world class research centre and it is an honour to have the centre named after our own son."

Muir Maxwell, aged 16 is profoundly damaged by a severe form of epilepsy called Dravet Syndrome and Ann and husband Jonny established the Muir Maxwell Trust in 2003 in response to the experience of raising Muir and to provide practical support to other families struggling to cope with their child's epilepsy.

The Centre, run by Dr Richard Chin and his team will go on to identify causes, cures and better treatments for some of the most profoundly damaging epilepsy syndromes. They will also focus on quality of life issues for children and families so they may be better supported.
